About me and my practice
My practice is based on my extensive counselling experience, evidence based counselling practices & current research. I am an Integrative Counsellor which means I can use different models of counselling to support your needs. I am based in the beautiful Health & Wellbeing Centre at Millfield Court in Eccleston, St Helens. Adjacent to Eccleston Woods, Taylor Park and Eccleston Mere.
My counselling experience includes supporting people with issues of overwhelm, stress (Certified Stress Management coach), anxiety, perfectionism, imposter syndrome, trauma, abuse, life losses, lack of meaning/purpose, social anxiety and health diagnosis in particular Cancer, working with the newly diagnosed as well as those receiving palliative care to end of life.
I have helped individuals overcome low self-esteem, low self-worth, lack of confidence, loss of sense of self/identity.
I specialise in supporting those suffering grief due to bereavement & I have enabled people to regain balance, meaning, restorative calm, so that they can regain a sense of independence to continue living their life.
I am an Accredited Pregnancy & Infant Loss Practitioner supporting those experiencing grief due to pregnancy loss (stillbirth, miscarriage, missed miscarriage, molar pregnancy, failed fertility treatment, ectopic, unknown location, miscarried multiple, absorbed multiple, medical/surgical termination, termination) and infant loss (including SIDS).
My specialism of working with grief includes helping those with issues when grief has become more complicated for various reasons.
Sometimes friends/family/work colleagues can listen but don't hear, they look but don't see. We can often feel unheard & invisible. If we are struggling with life, our emotions & how we are feeling then it is at times like these that we certainly need to be seen & heard but we may not know where to turn for help. I provide a compassionate presence, listening and validating your story & feelings.
Experience
I have previously worked for a Women's Mental Health Charity providing support at two "drop-in" facilities on a weekly basis, also providing support at three female secure units allowing me to work with women who may feel isolated, afraid, even more anxious in this environment. .
I have provided support for a children's bereavement charity in the North West of England. Supporting children who are bereaved by the loss of a relative or friend and including supporting children when parents have experienced pregnancy loss.
Functioning as a family support worker for a national charity I supported families, parent(s) in their own homes. Families could be struggling with a variety of issues including their own mental wellbeing issues, addiction, loneliness, financial constraints, new to the area.
Offering counselling within an organisation which provided general mental health support. This allowed me to work with adult male and females who may have a diagnosis of borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, individuals suffering abuse, those who have suffered historical abuse, individuals presenting with anxiety and depression, relationship issues, identity issues, bereavement, long-term health issues etc.
More recently I have provided support as an Oncology Counsellor within a Regional Cancer Unit. This involved providing counselling to individuals who had a cancer diagnosis (working with people who had an initial diagnosis, during their treatment, during surgery, recovery, or those who were receiving palliative care to end of life). I also provided counselling to those who were bereaved due to cancer. My time on the Cancer Unit also allowed me to engage in Research regarding the impact of Compassion Fatigue for Oncology Counsellors.
In my private practice I work with a range of issues from anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, grief, health issues including end of life, abuse, trauma etc.
